Description: Commonly known as mango, is a species of flowering plant in the family Anacardiaceae. Mangoes are believed to have originated from the region between northwestern Myanmar, Bangladesh, and India. It is a large fruit-tree, capable of growing to a height and crown width of about 30 metres (100 ft) and trunk circumference of more than 3.7 metres (12 ft). It is a large green tree, valued mainly for its fruits, both green and ripe. Approximately 500 varieties of mango have been reported in India. It can grow up to 15–30 metres (49–98 ft) tall. The tree grows best in well-drained sandy loam; it does not grow well in heavy wet soils. The optimal pH of the soil should be between 5.2 and 7.5.Red-yellow flowers appear at the end of winter and beginning of spring.

Distribution: The distribution is in the Indo-Malesian region, specifically India and Myanmar. Wild populations can be found in the Assam-Chittagong Hills in India and in Myanmar

Uses: Mango is cultivated for the fruit which can be eaten. Seed kernels form a by-product of processing; they can be used as feed for cattle and poultry. In India the kernels are also important as a famine-food, but the astringency has to be removed by boiling, roasting or soaking the kernels for a long time. Young leaves are eaten fresh or cooked as a vegetable. Dried flowers or bark and decoctions of the kernels serve as astringents in traditional medicine. It possesses anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-oxidant properties. The seeds are used for hemorrhage, diarrhea and other bodily discharges. The dried flowers are useful for of diarrhea, chronic dysentery, catarrh of the bladder and chronic urethritis. The resinous gum is applied on cracks in the skin of the feet. The powder is useful for bleeding hemorrhoids. The seeds are used in asthma, cough and other lungs congestions.
